Council disposal costs

How we compare disposal costs in England

We record the published tariff and included quantity together, link its source and show the verification date. We do not divide a multi-item booking into an advertised single-item price.

Record the published package as a package.

We store the council, official source, paid tariff, included quantity, entitlement and check date together. A multi-item package is not divided into an advertised single-item price. This preserves the conditions that a resident needs when comparing routes.

Use the responsible authority’s current information

We record the published tariff and included quantity together, link its source and show the verification date. We do not divide a multi-item booking into an advertised single-item price.

Read the relevant official guidance ↗

Verify item acceptance separately.

A council can publish a general bulky-service charge while excluding a particular item. Item pages quote the tariff as an item option only when that item’s acceptance has also been checked. Missing verification is labelled as missing, not as refusal.

Do not turn examples into a national average.

The current set is a collection of checked examples, not a representative survey of all English councils. We do not calculate or claim an England-wide average from it. Changes should be checked against the current official page and dated in the record.

Checked council collection packages.

These examples are the councils’ published service packages, not a national average. Check the actual accepted item and household conditions before applying a tariff.

Confirm the arrangement for your household.

The decision follows the exact item, service and address. Use the current official source to establish these points before treating an option as available:

  • The actual waste: its product or material, condition, quantity and source.
  • The named route: which council service, centre or designated public collection point applies.
  • The service conditions: acceptance, household eligibility, any allowance or published charge.
  • The practical arrangement: official presentation, access and any booking or request process.

Missing information in the hub is labelled as unverified. A current council statement should take priority when its arrangements have changed since the check date.

Find the responsible council ↗

Apply the guidance to the actual item.

Item guides keep construction, varieties, public routes and checked local conditions together. Use the item’s main page instead of assuming the same requirements apply to every object in a broad waste category.

Find public disposal information for your area.

England’s regions are browsing areas, not individual waste services. The regional overview helps you explore, while your exact council and centre determine acceptance, eligibility and access.

Rubbish Central is an independent information hub. It does not collect waste or take service bookings. See the coverage of checked records and how we verify local information before treating an example as relevant to your address.
